Its aim is to formulate and coordinate Federal Government's social policy, designed to achieve the common good and implement it in a jointly responsible fashion with society.

The vision of Mexico's social development in 2025 guides this government's efforts and points out the main characteristics of the country to be constructed. This guide will be the basis for establishing a long-term commitment with Mexican society. A period of 25 years has been defined as the period in which this ideal can be achieved. Society as a whole must therefore be involved in the search for and achievement of effective social development. The target vision can be summarized as follows:

Through their own efforts and initiative, Mexicans will be able to achieve decent, sustained living standards. Mexico has mechanisms and policies that guarantee the consistent creation of prosperity and equity through the development of opportunities and skills, with the participation of society as a whole. It has regional equilibrium, as well as widespread well-being, proportional to the performance of the Mexican economy and its link with the global context.

The bases have been established for integral social and human development for every aspect of a person, both cultural and material, with full freedom and responsibility, with a solid commitment to the common good.

The aim is for Mexico to have a more balanced urban system, within a sustainable territorial arrangement that is effectively and efficiently locally administered, with decent housing for households, with proper facilities and services.

The Mission of the Social Development Secretariat (Sedesol) defines the current administration’s commitment to advancing towards the achievement of effective social development:

Its aim is to formulate and coordinate Federal Government's social policy, designed to achieve the common good and implement it in a jointly responsible fashion with society.
It seeks to overcome poverty through inclusive, jointly responsible integral human development, to achieve sufficient levels of well-being with equity through policies and actions to achieve territorial organization, urban development and housing by improving social, economic and political conditions in rural and urban spaces.
